Before the Workshop Meeting Day

Before the workshop meeting day, participants will enhance their understanding of BPC and BPC Plans and will develop a complete first draft of their Departmental BPC Plan.

Complete a working draft of your BPC Plan

Following the steps outlined in this section will help you complete a working draft (see steps 6 and 7 for more details)

  1. Apply to the workshop.
Apply to participate in the 2024 Virtual BPC Plan Workshop. The workshop comprises a set of asynchronous and synchronous activities as we discuss during the orientation in the next activity.
  2. Attend the orientation.
Register for and attend the BPC Plan Workshop Orientation on Monday, July 29. The recording and transcript of the orientation can be found here.
  3. Join the Slack group.
The Workshop’s Slack Group is an informal forum among workshop participants and organizers for related questions and discussions. Participants will drive most of the engagement. Leaders will monitor the discourse and provide appropriate feedback and comments.
Formal communications still will be sent to participants via their registered email addresses.
  4. Review the companion videos.
BPC Plans have four main parts: (1) Context, (2) Goals, (3) Activities, and (4) Evaluation and Measurement. The video resources section of the Step-by-Step Guide describes BPC Plans, in general, and each of these parts, specifically. Review these videos before proceeding to the next steps, which will guide you through developing the working draft of your departmental plan.
  5. Review the Writing a Departmental BPC Plan Step-by-Step plan guide.
The Step-by-Step Guide will help you to create a working draft of your departmental plan. Follow this guide to compile necessary data and information and to complete the draft.
  6. Complete your working draft. (This is the most critical pre-meeting day step!)
We expect a complete working draft of your Departmental Plan before the main meeting day. Referencing the information and resources provided above as needed, prepare this working draft.  Complete content is much more important than the form – you may even consider bullet points of the content for your plan’s Context, Goals, Activities, and Evaluations.
  7. Add your working draft to the Google Drive folder for your institution.
Please add your working draft to the folder with your institution’s name. You can access the shared Google Drive folder for the workshop here.
  8. Consult with Consultants or Organizers.
As you prepare your working draft for the main workshop day, you should direct any questions you have about the process to the workshop organizers. You can also make appointments to meet with plan consultants for questions on the plan itself.
    • To contact the workshop organizers:
      • Post on the Slack channel #workshop-support
      • Email trahman@cra.org
    • To ask questions to the consultants:

During the Workshop Meeting Day

The main Workshop Meeting Day is Friday, August 16, 2024. During the meeting, participants will learn more about BPC, BPC plan best practices, and how to improve their working drafts from experts and through a guided peer-to-peer review session.

  1. Schedule a formal plan consultation.
Before the end of the main workshop day, each participating institution will schedule at least one post-workshop meeting with a BPC consultant for finalizing their Plans.
  2. Learn about BPC and BPC Plans.
The main workshop meeting day kicks off with BPC overviews from CRA and NSF leadership and a keynote presentation from Dr. Carol Henderson titled, “Perfecting the Pivot: Meeting Our Institutional Mission in the New D!v3r$1#y Realities”. These sessions aim to provide broad perspective and guidance on BPC and BPC plans. The second half of the day offers more specific Departmental Plan development guidance. Expert BPCnet consultants present a panel on best practices for BPC plans and BPC.
  3. Peer reviews departmental plans drafts.
The culmination of the main workshop day is a 90-minute peer review session, during which participants will break into small groups and use what they have learned before and throughout the day to review each other’s working drafts and offer constructive, actionable feedback.
  4. Interact with experts and peers.
Throughout the main meeting day, participants will have many opportunities to ask questions and offer comments and perspectives during the main presentation sessions, breakout sessions, peer review sessions and via the Slack forum.

After the Workshop Meeting Day

After the main meeting day, participants will finalize their Departmental BPC Plans, including BPCnet verification.

  1. Revise and submit plan for verification.
In the final phases, participants will finalize their Departmental plans, by addressing feedback, if any, received from BPCnet Consultants and submitting for final verification.
  2. Complete and refine plan draft.
After the main workshop meeting day, participants will use the received information and feedback to complete their departmental plan. At this point, both the content and presentation will be prepared for their (hopefully near) final forms.
  3. Meet with a consultant.
After completing your plan draft, meet with a plan consultant for feedback and advice. (This appointment should have already been made on the main workshop meeting day.)
Schedule an appointment with a BPCnet Consultant.
