iAAMCS: The Institute for African-American Mentoring in Computing Sciences

The Institute for African-American Mentoring in Computing Sciences (IAAMCS, pronounced ‘i am cs’) serves as a national resource for all African-American computer science students and faculty. The objective of IAAMCS is to increase the number of African-Americans
receiving Ph.D. degrees in computing sciences, promote and engage students in teaching and training opportunities, and add more diverse researchers into the advanced technology workforce.

IAAMCS Goals

• Increase in African American students in graduate computing programs
• Increase in African American recipients of graduate degrees in computing
• Increase in the number of African Americans who enter the professoriateIncrease the number of African Americans who enter careers that utilize an advanced degree in computing
• Longitudinal data collection and evaluation for national dissemination
• Support CISE Pls and CS Department looking to support BPC efforts
• Support HBCU and African American computer science faculty
