Each year the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT) honors the outstanding research, graduate mentoring, and diversity contributions of Mary Jean Harrold and David Notkin through the NCWIT Harrold and Notkin Research and Graduate Mentoring Award. The award recognizes faculty members from non-profit, U.S. institutions (including U.S. territories) for their outstanding research accomplishments, graduate mentoring, and advocacy in recruiting, encouraging, and promoting women and minorities in computing fields at both a local and national level.
